Ortho-Design specialises in designing and manufacturing orthopaedic and soft tissue fixation devices. Founded by Tim Peach, its focus is on creating innovative biomedical implants and instruments that empower surgeons to deliver better care for their patients.
“When we pitched to Aspen, we set our sights on two major milestones: scaling our manufacturing and expanding our exports. A year later, I’m proud to say that we've made tremendous progress on both fronts.
Since the competition, we’ve collaborated with various partners, funding bodies and institutions to set up a specialised Biotech manufacturing facility. Though we're not yet where we want to be in terms of in-house capability, the strides we've made in localising production are significant. We’ve begun to position ourselves as leaders in MedTech innovation, driving a sector that has long been reliant on imports.
On the export front, we’ve expanded our product portfolio, adding five new product families to our US FDA-approved range. This has allowed us to export over 2 500 units already in 2025 alone, reaching 2 000 patients across eight countries. These international exports have not only validated our products but have also set the stage for further global expansion.
While Ortho-Design and Aspen don’t share the exact same focus – Aspen being a pharmaceutical giant and us being in the medical devices space – the opportunity to engage with Aspen's top executives was invaluable. Those conversations helped us sharpen our strategy and provided the clarity we needed to hit the milestones we had set for the business.
Looking back, the exposure gained from the competition has been a game changer. Beyond media visibility, it opened doors to meaningful collaborations with key organisations and decision-makers. Strategic discussions with the right people have the power to change the course of a business, and we’ve seen that firsthand.
